1 Good Deed A Day

Making the World Smile – One Face at a Time

Inspired

What was it that gave the inspiration for ‘1-GoodDeedaDay.com’?

My name’s Steve Bimpson and, amongst other things, I work with an organisation called BNI (Business Network International), the largest and most successful business referral organisation in the world.  I originally joined BNI in 2000 and became an Assistant Director in 2009.

One of my fellow members, Mark Edmunds, has a business that records video messages for websites (www.shootingbusiness.com).  He made a special offer in the run up to Christmas offering to record a Christmas Greeting as an alternative to sending out cards.  As this was a little different, I decided to ‘give it a whirl’.

It was while I was deciding exactly what to say in the video that I recalled a conversation I’d had with a friend a few weeks earlier about the merits of doing favours for people.  The result was that I decided to make it my New Years Resolution for 2010 to do ‘1 Good Deed a Day’!

As the idea sunk in, I felt completely inspired by it and decided to mention it in my Chtistmas Greeting video. During the first take I felt inspired by the idea all over again.  I started to think that, maybe -  just maybe, other people may feel as inspired about this idea as I did.

As a result of this, I went on to Facebook and started a group, ‘1 Good Deed a Day‘.  Then I went on to register the domain name for this website.  After all, if other people did feel inspired, as I’d done, it made sense to have some kind of resource available to them to allow them to participate.

I went on to record my Christmas Greeting, the result of which you can see below.

I did ‘ramble on’ a little but the message came from the heart!

The message was recorded early in November, well ahead of when it would be circulated, and I must admit that I have had some second thoughts about opening the idea up to the world.  But I still feel inspired at the thought of it and I really do hope that the idea can capture the imagination of other people.

We live in a world where we get fed lots of negative ‘news’ and where the impression, that many have, is of a society where everyone simply thinks of themselves.  Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we all spent a little time every day, thinking about others?

I believe that the vast majority of people care abouth their fellow man and that they are more than willing to help others but, because we all lead such busy lives, we just don’t think about doing it!

I want to get people to commit to thinking about it.  To commit to doing ‘1 Good Deed a Day’.

I’m a great believer that ‘we reap what we sow’, that ‘what goes around, comes around’.  I mentioned, earlier, that I work with BNI.  Their philosophy is based on the principle of ‘Givers Gain’ and I’ve seen (and experienced first hand) what can happen when people simply give without expecting anything in return.  It’s the Law of Attraction in action!

I know that, if we trust in this philosophy, if we believe in the Law of Attraction, then every good deed we do to help other people will, ultimately, come back and help us.

Why then, wouldn’t we all do at least ‘1 Good Deed a Day’?

So, I’m inviting you, right now, to join me and undertake to do at least ‘1 Good Deed a Day’.  Whether it’s a small deed or a large one isn’t important.  The important thing is that we’re all consciously thinking about helping other people every day.  And when we do, perhaps we can raise a smile from them?

Who knows! If enough of us do just ‘1 Good Deed a Day’ we may even make the world a better place to live in.

This may sound crazy to anyone reading this and, perhaps I’m a bit of a dreamer.  But Giant Redwood trees do grow from a single seed, just as all ideas and philosophies grow from a single thought.

If you’re feeling even a little bit inspired, just remember.  Positive thought, without positive action, leads to positively nothing.

Take action right now.  Join this group and take the decision to do ‘1 Good Deed a Day’ from now on.

Who knows where it may lead?

  1. I would appreciate more visual materials, to make your blog more attractive, but your writing style really compensates it. But there is always place for improvement

  2. Thank you for your comment. I take your point, completely. It is a little lacking in pictures. I’ll see what I can do.

    Kindest regards,

    Steve Bimpson

  3. This is my first visit here, but I will be back soon, because I really like the way you are writing, it is so simple and honest
